I haven’t heard about the new biography but I will check it out. Thanks!
When I was watching the Mcluhan Speaks videos, I noticed that somewhere between 1968 and 1974 he grew that mustache. I wonder if Coupland will mention that in the new book!

My life as a mobile digital artist is a journey that I could never have predicted. When I was a kid in school, I used to draw and paint and I was even doing some relativelylarge landscapes in oils and acrylics a few years after college. I would usually paint from scenic calendars but eventually I [...] -

Hi Patrick, When I saw the title “Understanding Media, the Extensions of Man” I immediately flashed back to the book room of the high school where, back in the early eighties, I taught a class called Mass Media. There were stacks of those paperbacks, enough for several classes, piled high. It had that iconic cover [...]

Hi Mia! I was just trying to figure out how to post my first blog entry, but I got called away to make a melted cheese and tuna sandwich. Do I send it to you or is there a place to post it? I know you wanted to see it before it gets published.

I just received a copy of this month’s Photoshop Creative magazine that’s published in the UK. Their Top Story is about iAMDA. Mia Robinson, Joseandrés Guijarro Ponce and I are quoted and they printed La Legra Negra’s painting of Escher Revisited and my Balloons painting.
That’s brillant! Is it online somewhere?
No. They don’t show any of the magazine’s content on their website and I think it’s probably a violation of copyright if I posted a scanned copy of the page. Here’s their link: http://www.photoshopcreative.co.uk/back_issues.php
It’s a really nicely done magazine and it comes with a CD full of free Photoshop stuff.

I just sent Ben an email. I had corresponded with him back in March and among other things I asked him about the output resolution of Layers. I have never been able to get anything but the smallest file from the Layers Viewer. It always hangs up. I never got a reply from him. I think he may have just finished up his senior year at Vanderbilt so he’s a busy fellow.
Has anybody been able to output larger file sizes using the Layers Viewer?

I have had some correspondence with Ben Gotow, the creator of NetSketch and Layers.

This may not be exactly what you are looking for but it’s one of my favorite animations of all time. It’s by Saul Bass, was done in 1968 and is part of a short film called ”Why Man Creates.” The entire film is delightful and this section starts out with cave people and shows all of human history in four quick minutes. If nothing else, it’s a great way to get the party started: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nHOWkfGFsk

I couldn’t find my comments either so I’ll summarize. NetSketch just lets you paint with solid lines. It does have an infinite canvas size. The ”My Living Room” painting I did was 84” at screen resolution but it crashed my phone when I tried to upload it, so I had to contact Ben Gotow, the developer, to extract it for me.
I get the feeling that Ben has moved on from NetSketch and doesn’t support it much. I can’t see my replays on the site and it’s impossible to download files. He created Layers and I haven’t used it for a while because it only allowed very small export sizes. I’m curious now to check to see if he’s upped the size. Megapixels would be great!
