Post-Conference Discussion: 1 year, 6 months ago · ViewhiAMDA. Hispanic iAMDA
Hi guys. It was an amazing and unforgettable weekend in all subjects. I suppose is a small aspect for you, but for me (you know it) the language is a big problem. Actually I’m not the only one non english-speaker in Spain (a big problem of our education), but the only one who has dared to go without to speak English. I suposse what each people has one reason for not to be there, but I know some great fingerpainters who don’t speak english too. Perhaps it affects to not go to NY and to not tag iAMDA news. I’m thinking about Xoan Baltar, from Ourense, Borja Aguado (Grodenaue) from Bilbao, Patricio, from Paris but spanish speaker, Fernando Hierro, from Madrid, Andrea Mdos, from Catalonia, and some people from South America.
Luis and I, we are thinking about a hispanic branch of iAMDA, fully inside iAMDA, for group these people and provide them to join the association. We could organize some events here, but for first steep we can provide a spanish version of the web and two spanish contacts (Luis and me) to supply the contact with iAMDA. Of course it would be great to open similar groups for each language, but I think perhaps are we, spanish people, who are more problems with english. If you like the idea, we can implement it. I suppose that is easy, when you write a text for the web, you send us it and we translate and put in a spanish version of the web. Directly or send you the translated text for you put in on the web. Of course only news and main information, not chat of groups, but we can create inside a spanish group for debate in.
Tell us that you think about.good stuff!
as for spanish translation, how good works google translate for you guys? is it good at all? you can try it on http://mobileartcon.com
there are plugins for multilanguage sites, but this can become quite a hassle soon. but we cann easily add like one static page for other languages w basic info, would that be something to start with?another idea i’m tinkering with: there are many conferences in europe dealing with new stuff, new thinking, like the reboot, the next, the shift (in portugal) -> why not come up with a con-in-con concept.
like a full parallel track to the shift maybe? that way we wont have to organize the whole thing.Joseandrés. I think it’s a good idea. We knew that when we set out to do this that we would not want for it to be an exclusively English-speaking, or American organization….and I have always assumed that we would have ”chapters” such as the German chapter, the Spanish Chapter, the British Chapter etc…We’re just trying to form a central organization so that this can take place.
My vision (and I think that of others) is that we can still maintain a strong central group called ”iAMDA,” but have these ”satellites” while STILL maintaining the unity of the group. I think it’s natural to want for it to take place in one’s own language…here’s where we need to discuss how to do it. Would you also send this in an e-mail to Mia, because she might have some ideas too. That sounds great, because I have to admit that I my English is particularly not so good and it is therefore difficult to follow some discussions…

Luis Peso, his girlfriend and me, made the reservations at the Pod hotel. Looks a good place for stay. It will be cool to be a lot of people from the con at the same place.
In reply to - Jonathan Grauel posted an update in the group HOTELS OPTIONS FOR NYC (Still looking? Maybe we can find a group rate) : How many people can stay in the Pod? I love the idea of sharing the experience and having people to travel to and from the activities with.. It doesn’t cost me anything to cancel my Hostel [...] · View -

Thanks Jonathan for the advice
In reply to - Jonathan Grauel posted an update in the group HOTELS OPTIONS FOR NYC (Still looking? it’s a pitty not to have simultaneous translation. Though I guess I’ll be one of the few who do not have a minimum level of English. I would love to participate more activement and give a conference but the language is a big problem for me. I can try to read the content in English, previously translated, but I dont know if that is a good idea. If there are enough people speaking Spanish at the con, it would be great to program in any room a conference or workshop in Spanish.
In reply to - Helene Goldberg posted an update in the group MobileArtCon 2010 : I posted this on ”Dreams” but maybe it belongs here: right now we probably can’t have instant translations into French, German, or Spanish (or Serbocroation, Cantonese, Tagalog or Japanese) but why not have some of the conferences in French, German or Spanish for those of us who [...] · View -
