OK, I think I know the issues: first off it says you can have spaces in your user name but you can’t. It says you can’t have other punctuation so that may mean no caps either.
Next, password has to follow very strict rules: most have lower and upper case letters, must have numbers, must have punctuation – I used a space. It gives no clue whatsoever when rejecting you but when I finally jumped through all those hoops, I got on.In reply to - Jung posted an update in the group Mobile Art in the News: Hello. MobileArtCon 2010: 2 years, 7 months ago · ViewPortrait Party meet-up Oct 25 10:30-12 at The High Line Park, possibly followed by lunch.
The Portrait Party is a flickr group where artists draw each other from photos. Existing members and anyone at the conference who’d like to become a Portrait Party member for the day (or longer!) is welcome to join us at this meet-up for an opportunity to draw each other in person, with the city as our backdrop. Chelsea Market is nearby for lunch afterwards or a quick retreat in case of inclement weather.
Details of exact meet-up coordinates to come, but please put it on your calendar now if you’d like to join us. (And perhaps leave a note here so I have some sense of how many might come.)
I would love to be included in the portrait party. I feel like I’ve been a fly on the Flickr wall admiring all of your work. I could certainly use the practice and support of such a lovely group. Do i need to join via flickr too? or does this suffice. Super excited to meet everyone in person. It’s so fun to feel like I know all the artists from portraits done by the other artists.
Hi Gina,
You’re welcome to join us in NYC without joining online – but you’re also quite welcome to join us at flickr if you’d like to draw and be drawn by artists from all over the world via photos.Anyone who’d like to join us online should go to the following link:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/portraitparty/
and read the description.
If you’re not already on flickr, create a free account, and upload some examples of your non-photographic artwork. Then go back to the group page above, click the join button, and follow the instructions. At some point you’ll have the opportunity to tell me about your interest in the group – mention that you’re an iamda member and read about it here.
Be patient – it sometimes takes up to a week for me to review and approve people.
Either way, I look forward to seeing you in NYC!
Juliai am excited, I haven’t had time with all the prep to get my stuff up for group, but hope to before the meet up
Holy Crap! I have lived and worked in and around NYC on and off for 13 years and have never ever heard of this park! I must have rollerbladed and ran right by it a thousand times! this is a great idea, as long as I sit with my back to the water so my glorious Hoboken is in any potential paintings. Actually, if you leave me out of frame, they’ll be better pics for it…sounds like fun!
Fantastic! Really looking forward to meeting, talking and drawing with everyone!
@Jonathan – it’s absolutely not a requirement, but if you start a discussion thread and post a couple pics of yourself, at least we’ll know who we’re looking for
@Matt – I’m from NYC but I had never heard of it either – I think it came into existence after I moved West. Many thanks to fantastic watercolorist & Portrait Party member Anne Watkins for suggesting it.How will we know each other? Everyone in NYC is walking around carrying iPhones!
I’m working on an exact meeting location and will have some kind of sign or something that says ’JKPP”… stay tuned.
