Not to jump the gun, but I found and rented an apartment for IAMDAcon 2 just about a block and half away from ITP. Thanks for the Airbnb suggestion.
-
I did it last year and saved a lot of money, but the apt was in Chelsea. This time it’s on Astor Pl. (1.5 blocks away) and it’s $155 for a studio apt w/ elevator, kitchen and washer/dryer. Beats any hotel even the Pod or bedbug ridden Jane.

I’ve been weighing my guilt about my apple addiction, but reading all this has convinced me to get a new one to cut back on all the artrage crashes. (I sure hope this helps). I will definitely get black because it shows off my work better. I’m not sure I’ll like the case as well [...]

Thanks Josh. Your encouragement made the difference. I applied. I hope I did everything right. I had some problems uploading my images.

SF (or Berkeley) would be fantastic. Of course after the holidays. I think Robert Dawson is from this area too. Depending on how many of us there are we could meet up in my office in Berkeley. It has 3 separate meeting rooms, a kitchen and it’s next to BART. It’s not ITP, but…

MobileArtCon 2010: 2 years, 7 months ago · ViewHi all,
I’m set to teach an artist forum on mixing apps, but I’d rather make this a panel and team up with others of you who do it in different ways or use different apps. Let me know if you want to take part or combine classes.Count me in Tripping Fest here we come!!!
Cool. I hope others will join us with other apps too.
did you get enough folks to fill out your panel?
So far it’s just me and Luis. If you want to demonstrate mixing apps too, you are welcome to join in. I figure people will all use apps differently.
Helene,
I am happy to sit on the panel.
JulianCool. We should figure out which apps to cover. I think Jonathan and Luis are on it too. I listed some of the apps I use (tf, nptr, at, dxp, addlib, br, vihgo, pse and probably others). We can divide them up or each show a series and explanation of why and how we use them. It’s only an hour so I think 4 of us are enough so we each have time to show our stuff.
Helene,
Beaut.
Add Layers and Hipstamatic (square formats) and a touch of ToonPaint to your list.
My brain will most likely still be in the mid-pacific when in NYC so I need to think about how I can contribute to your session before leaving. What is the space like and how do you intend presenting e.g equipment, projectors or group participation? Discuss by email if you want.
JWHi Julian— I don’t really know what equipment or how many people are going to be in the class. This would be a great time to find out. Originally, I though there would be just a few people and we’d sit around talking about how we do things. I hope there will be a projector so everybody can see what we’re doing. I think Julia is doing a fast run though on a whole lot of apps. I see us showing how to COMBINE apps to achieve different effects. Now that I know there are over 200 people registered, I assume the class might be pretty big. We only have one hour so we have to plan how to divide up the time.
Helene, Are you still wanting to expand the printing forum to two hours?
Absolutely. There is so much to learn: using photoshop to get better prints, paper, home printers, rgb=cmyk, commercial printing. I have spent hours and hours trying to figure things out and I’m not nearly satisfied with my results. Furthermore, when people want to buy your paintings you need a print or to display them. For that matter we could talk a bit about marketing. I know I’m adding a lot, but these would be really popular forums (fora).
O.K…we’re getting an onslaught of presentation requests, etc…and I think there could probably be an arrangement whereby there’s a two-hour session with a break in the middle, and people can choose to go to both hours or not. Would that be a good compromise? It’s not about the content at this point, it’s more about the physical limitations of the space, and the fact that presenters are STILL jumping on board (f.i. Fabric Lenny just wrote me today……it’s an exciting embarrassment of riches)…………..I’ll talk to Craig and Benjamin, and see how this might be structured.
That makes sense. 2 people (Jonathan Grauel and Julian Wrigley) just asked to join my panel so now with Luis we have 4. I think that’s as big as it should be so we have enough time to really demonstrate apps. How big do you think the classes will be? I had originally thought 4 or 5 people might be interested, though now I’m thinking they will be much bigger.
Also: please don’t schedule the printing classes at the same time as mine. I really really want to go to them. (of course that was pretty obvious all along).
This whole thing is amazing!!!!! It’s hard to believe that so few people, so physically separated can put together something like this.
I think our group should tackle solving the mideast peace problem next. This is the most competent group I’ve ever been in. We can do anything! Artists Rock!!!
It’s funny you should say that Helene as this weekend, I figured out how to get the Israelis to stop building settlements on the West Bank! Abu Abbas said if the Israelis keep expanding settlements, they will leave the peace process.
He should have said the exact opposite!
He should have said, ”we want you to build as many settlements as your rich Jewish friends all over the world can afford.
We want those settlements to have the strongest foundations, built out of the best materials, with abundant water, and electricity. We want those settlements to have the best roads, schools, hospitals and recreational facilities. We want these things because when we get our state and all of you are removed from the West Bank, we’ll insist these settlements be turned over intact, and delivered to our most needy people.”How fast do you think people would STOP the settlement?
I don’t think I could solve the Mideast problem myself, but if our board put their minds to it…………..
I like your idea and I agree that if this board sets it mind to it, it can do anything.
Helene, so whats the latest plan, do we too do some sort of collaborative ichat or email to get our ducks in a row? Let me know what ya need.
jHi Jonathan, maybe we can talk on the phone if you live in the US. I haven’t really thought it through yet. I’ll check with Julian too. I think Luis lives outside the US so a phone call would be too expensive.
Jonathan, Luis, and Julian-
We could either do a in ichat or if you live in the usa we could talk by phone. Unfortunately Luis and Julian live in Spain and Australia so we would have to do something online. My email is helenegoldberg@mac.com. I’m really glad you are asking this since I have not really planned it out in my mind. Right now I’m thinking that we could each briefly discuss how and why we combine our favorite apps and do some demonstrations. If there are 4 of us it should be about 10 minutes each with a discussion at the end. What do you think?
I was going to demonstrate how I use tripping fest, artists touch, nptr, dxp, vihgo and brushes together. What apps do you want to talk about?
Helene, let me know if you need an additional voice for the AppSmash panel. How will you demonstrate apps? Camera rig at a station being projected overhead?
Hi Matt
I think we have enough people: Julian, Luis and Jonathan Grauel are joining me. Jonathan is going to prepare a keynote I think. I look forward to meeting you soon.

MobileArtCon 2010: 2 years, 7 months ago · ViewHi all——- Has anyone been in touch with the press about covering our event? It would be so cool to be covered in the the Times or New Yorker (and since this week’s cover is by Hockney on his iPad, it would be timely). Anyway only a couple of weeks to go……….
ja, we all are reaching out, and everybody who has contacts should too pls
I contacted TNY though my work leads, but they have not responded yet. I will keep trying; the 10.18 issue is still underway, so we have time…
What about Time Out NY or New York Magazine?
Sounds good. Does anyone have contacts with them?
hmm. My contacts at both have left. does anyone object to me posting the conference as an event on Craigslist NYC? It’s free, but do we have a boilerplate that I can use?

I just looked at the schedule and I’m a bit worried because now I see that it is only 30 minutes and 3 other people are going to be in it. I don’t think this will work very well. Somehow I thought it would be an hour and I know I have at least 15-20 minutes worth of demos. Should I disinvite people? Not my preference at all. Or will it be an hour with 15 minutes each? I kind of think people want to see how we do it with an explanation of how and why.
Helene – If you are referring to the schedule on mobileartcon.com – your App Mashery spot is still set to an hour. It’s just that your and my presentation are currently slotted for the same time – but in different rooms. That line is not a division of time – it’s just indicating that there are two things going on at once.
A relief
Helene,
I’ll aim for about 5 to 10 minutes to allow for some participant interaction within the hour.
JW
PS. I have sent through my bio to Craig.
