Have you found a color picker in Artrage ? There’s a ”picker” in the color wheel, but it doesn’t seem to be the same.

    Becky, John,

Unfortunately when I arrived in France Lascaux was closed for visitors. I’ve been once in Les Ezyies years ago. In fact I’ve visited more (French) Brittany and love that ”country” for the legends, the history and the prehistory.

The prehistoric site I’ve visited recently is located in Carnac (Brittany) and the vicinity. I’ve checked again, and I think it’s really dated from 450,000 years. Incredible indeed !

Actually I live in Paris, and we have 3 kinds of cave: the famous Parisian sewers, the subway, and the wine ”caves” :-) ))

For a cave tour you should choose the southern part of France (Dordogne) and Brittany. I think you shoud also add the French cattle tour for the architecture, the impressionist tour for the paintings, and the south most part (Provence) for the landscape. And during your pilgrimage, don’t forget the gastronomy. Hmm, it’s enough for one trip.

BTW I’ll be most happy to meet you when you come to France. Don’t forget to send me your schedule.

In Digital Artist Mag #2 (French edition Aug-Sept 2010) Susan Murtaugh showed a large tutorial in 4 pages on how to paint with Sketchbook Mobile on iPod. In full color printed, Susan’s work is clearly explained.

Benjamin Rabe has a painting displayed with his Flickr photostream link. And my painting app on Android is also referenced. I didn’t found any weblink for this magazine edition, sorry for that !

Just 2 days ago I have seen drawings on megalith in western part of France. Artpieces dated 450,000 years ago ! In fact the pictures are previously carved on the stones, then colored with a pigment. They are surprisingly beautiful.

I’ve also seen closely the paintings done in a cave by the Cro-magnon in another part of France. Their fineness is totally impressive.

In fact, painting with a finger is not natural (we all have learned to draw and paint with a tool), but it’s ”primitive and wild”. It forces us to touch quite physically our painting like these cro-magnon people, without any finger extended tool. It’s challenging for our creativity and feeling !

Why it seems more easy to sell a fingerpainting than a traditional one ? Don’t you think that digital mobile painting is a kind of ”quick consumption art” ? Then have a higher productivity… with a direct consequence of price falling ?

Hi Christine, my question is about how to print a bigger picture with the best quality, starting from a small image.

In fact when I export a painting from my Ipod its size is 320×480 pixels, and from my Android phone the size is still small (480 x 724). Then how can I print it for example up to 20’X30’ format without loosing definition ?

I just imagine transferring my painting to Photoshop (for example) on my PC, then resize the image by adding more density (from 72 to 250 for example). The image file becomes more heavy. But could I then print it into a bigger format and obtain a high definition quality ? Or I still get a blurred printed image ?

A suggestion I should do: to publish the works of the conference. By the past, I’ve attended to some professional conferences, and quite all of them have published their works after the conference. This publication was then widely promoted and distributed.

What we can do with our conference is to publish a kind of eBook about the works of the conference which can content an important introduction of our community, the speeches, art workshops, some tutorials (about painting techniques, applications, hardware…).

This publication can be distributed on different platforms: Apple, Android, Microsoft, RIM,….. I can take in charge (for free) the coding on Android platform and publish on Android Market and other alternate websites. But any of us can also promote and distribute this publication.

For this project, the speakers have to prepare a written document and send it to the conference organisers previously. So that the publication can be prepared and launched immediately after the conference.

Specially for the ”endgame”: between 2 yearly conferences we can create and publish masterclass eBooks with the contribution of the most of us. The content could be mostly about the art of fingerpainting, but we can add some news, application and hardware reviews, technical tutorials for artists, etc… It’s much more than a news magazine.

This masterclass eBook can be updated several times a year, every 3 or 4 months for example.

The last question is: should we publish the conference works and masterclass eBooks for free ?

I like both the idea of the eBook and the idea of the newspaper. The newspaper is very ironic in a sophisticated way – the fact that we are all working on devices which in some ways threaten to destroy the newspaper industry. But, then, in the end, we publish our conference in newspaper format. That’s a stroke of genius, I think.

But – of course – the eBook format would be more widely accessible.

I imagine nearly everyone will be presenting with a Keynote or Powerpoint – so I’m guessing saving those out as PDFs and then gathering those into the book will be a large part of the process. Or – am I viewing it too simplistically?

      • Avatar Image
Etienne Nguyen Tan Hon · 1 year, 9 months ago

Keynote and Powerpoint can be integrated into an eBook. The question is about the volume and place. Maybe the speakers can produce a written document specially for the eBook and/or Newspaper, but very summarized. A too long document is not really easy to read, specially with a screen.

      Etienne,
Do you have any interest in taking this on…i.e., compiling a site, etc after the conference, etc….the ”problem” we have about the word ”we” amongst us, is that ”we”= all of us……:) smiley face….You know, Craig Newsom and I are organizing the ”content” of this thing, and it might be nice to have a session about these issues. Do you have any desire to host a session just about ePublishing, or something to that effect. that might also stimulate discussion about how to publish the works for the conference? BTW…do you have the link to Terry’s works?

Thank you for your invitation. After the conference I’ll be glad to contribute to a site or other projects for a large promotion of fingerpainting. You and Craig are doing a so great work.

About ePublishing: hosting a session during the conference is a great idea. But in my opinion, these questions have to be solved by the organizers before the conference.

Terry’s works: sorry I don’t have the link.

Hi friends and thanks to Benjamin for pointing me to this discussion.
The books I published can be found in the appstore and are named Mobilart1, 2 and 3.
I’ll gladely help promote the community and the work done during this conference by relaying on the appstore any publication that will be done on the subject. It can be a complement of the epub or pdf version destined to the iBook app and will be free, of course.

I totally agree with what you say. The question is how to ”monetize” our work, which is mainly ”iwork”. I’ve made a suggestion in MobileArtCon 2010 group for publishing the conference works.

For the Endgame group, it’s more interesting to think about the Masterclass eBook which is more ”repeating” and more easy to diffuse. Several contributors will make a better quality for the content.

We can start this project right now, I can contribute for the general plan and the coding for android platform.

Besides the salsa demo of Luis Peso, I suggest a portrait party can be organized during the night. The rules could be:

    - Paint a portrait of any person attending the party, and only them
    - With or without fixed time.
    - A handicap can be attributed to each competitor according to the screen size
    - The criteria of notation could be: imagination, fun, surprise, …
    - The prizes ? Anything worth a souvenir.

    Have fun !

Yes, I would like a Portrait Party and actually to invite any local non-DMA members of the flickr Portrait Party group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/portraitparty/) to join us. I think one perspective is how is DMA different, another aspect is – how is it just one more tool like any other that artists use. I think it would be fun to draw an artist on my touch while they’re painting me with watercolors, etc.

Great idea!! I’d love to be in! Inviting non-MDA artists is a double edged weapon. It’s true what you mean Julia, that could be awsome to see! But also there’s the fatal comparision with MDArt and traditional art. People don’t believe in us yet, and I think it could be ”dangerous” to compare our art with traditional (watercolor is my fav!! :) )
It’s just my opinion, I love the idea anyways!

All the more reason to show what we’ve got :)
The portrait party artists have been posting traditional/digital side by side for 4 months now, and I haven’t seen anything but respect and curiosity about each other’s media – and many artists in that group swinging both ways and mixing it up.
