“THE UNSEEN”: CALL FOR ENTRIES (1st place wins an iPad2)
03:35 in Exhibitions, iAMDA News by mia
iAMDA is now accepting entries for its first ONLINE EXHIBITION. We are calling all artists to submit works for “The Unseen”, an online showcase of mobile digital works that push the boundaries of what we know and have seen in the past–visually and/or creatively.
The show is juried by visual artist, Michael James Miller. Miller’s paintings, installations, and prints investigate the continuing relationship between art and technology. He is currently an Associate Professor of Visual Arts at The University of Illinois, Springfield.
Selected works will be featured in an online exhibition hosted on iAMDA.org and will remain in the iAMDA.org exhibition archives (accessible on the site) after it closes.
Michael will also select a first place winner who will be awarded the coveted Apple iPad 2. Four others will receive our “juror’s award”, a $25 iTunes gift card. All other selected artists will have the distinct privilege of having their work displayed in iAMDA’s first annual online exhibition, with name listing and site/blog links. All works will remain in our show archives after the exhibition closes.
Winners and selected artists will be contacted prior to the show’s launch on May 1st.
So…what are you waiting for?! Show us what we have yet to see!
To submit or learn more about the show theme, download the show’s submissions form. Email the completed form and up to 3 images of work to iamdaexhibitions@gmail.com. DEADLINE IS APRIL 16, 2011.
PLEASE NOTE: This posting has been updated to reflect the extended deadline for submissions. The submissions form has also been updated. So if you’re staring at the screen thinking, “wait a minute…did the dates change or am I crazy?!” no, you’re not crazy. :-) Now you have a little more time to push the limits of your art! :-)

nice!
in the words of Mia “whoop whoop” – thx guys for hosting this opportunity.
slides. hmmm. i’ve never done anything but create on i-device and show online. is digital an option? being self-taught from scratch with all this, it always seems odd to transpose whats already in the perfect form for sending to anywhere in the world, to a form that slower, more limited, and not the original medium. tuts? explanations? i’d like to hear what others think.
Iquanyin, I presume, since jpgs are asked for they are what are being referred to as “slides”. It would be strange otherwise. And certainly since both the form and images are to be emailed! Even the most low tech galleries take CDs.
Is it a quicktime movie made of mobile paintings
and animated in the iphone accepted?
Iquanyin-
I think it’s just a typo from some standard text they copied from elsewhere. Before it says how to label the ‘slides’ it says
Make sure the submission is
in .jpg or .jpeg format. In addition, all
images should be saved with a maximum
quality setting not to exceed 300k.
And all other references are to ‘images’
Plus it says email your jpgs with this pdf form… so they clearly don’t actually want slides sent in the mail.
Yes, submitting I-device-made videos would be fine !
Perhaps not a painting slideshow though, but I’m with David.
I just downloaded the submission form, movies or animated sequences are accepted as long as they fit the title and the theme of the show.
Yes, it should be jpgs. no slides! sorry! And yes, you can submit videos. But no slideshows of work/still images. They should all be submitted separately.
sorry for the delay here!
I’m wondering if it’s an iPad2 for US only. I’m remembering the weird times when iPad arrived and all of us non US citizen were trying the way of catching one (yes, me too
) The main issue was the US AppStore. So, I think this is a very interesting contest to translate to Spanish, but I don’t want to generate disappointment… What am I supposed to do? What do you guys think about that non-US-citizen stuff?
Anyways, again…Thanks for the contest! Great and wonderful idea!!
Thanks for the opportunity. I should have at least photo to submit.
what you mean with : The Unseen ?
Hi Andrea– “The Unseen” – “Lo nunca visto” (thank you, Luis!

Hi Mia,
I would like to submit video, but the file sizes (+/- 35 MB) are too big for most email. I think I will send an email with my application form attached and include brief instructions and a link to a DropBox folder from which the files may be downloaded. That should be only a few extra clicks, so maybe not too inconvenient. I hope this approach will be OK
Thank you very much!
Dropbox is fine. I’ll let them know. I am not reviewing any of the submissions (THANKFULLY! can you imagine?! lol), but I will pass the word on to our juror to make sure he pulls them from your dropbox! Glad to know you’re submitting, Tim!
If I submit work, can I also post it to flickr? Or is it exclusive?
just sent my 3 jpgs and signed/scanned pdf. good luck everyone. looking forward to seeing everyone’s works.

I’m sad today! I was hoping to submit a painting I’ve been working on, but I won’t be able to finish in time! Oh well. I hope I’ll catch the next contest. I wish you all luck.
what a shame I’ve only just seen this contest, ah well, best of luck to everyone who submitted work
I’m sad too. I completely missed the boat on this one.
It was dark when I woke. This is a ray of suninshe.
